Oh Well

Not like it mattered, though...

It was Bush v. Gore, which ended the Florida recount and decided the 2000 presidential election.
Looking back, O'Connor said, she isn't sure the high court should have taken the case. "It took the case and decided it at a time when it was still a big election issue," O'Connor said during a talk Friday with the Tribune editorial board. "Maybe the court should have said, 'We're not going to take it, goodbye.'"
The case, she said, "stirred up the public" and "gave the court a less-than-perfect reputation."
"Obviously the court did reach a decision and thought it had to reach a decision," she said. "It turned out the election authorities in Florida hadn't done a real good job there and kind of messed it up. And probably the Supreme Court added to the problem at the end of the day."
Hey, everyone makes mistakes. No biggie, Sandy.

  2. Yeah, well, I've pretty much resigned myself to speaking in silence, Eugene. The readership, such as it is, is still there. But comments, not so much.

I think the reason is that people who agree tend not to feel the need. On my newspaper column, I get lots of online comments, nearly always vitriolic. The people who want to have a talk, or who agree, email me directly; and the positives outweigh the negatives by a wide margin. Interesting.

  3. Well, what can we say? I am pretty much in agreement with most of what is posted and still enjoy reading it but I can't add much.

In the broadest sense humans are a pretty pathetic species. It is amazing that progress of any kind has been made and yet, it has.

I do miss Frankie's humor and thought everyone took it entirely too seriously.

I will leave you with this clip from the HBO show The Newsroom. If the information is factual it should be required viewing but then again we all know that a high number wouldn't believe a word.

By the way, Frankie and I exchange emails pretty much daily, believe it or not.
