Can you imagine Romney or McCain or Bush making such an effective speech about, well, anything? Not that they would dare cross the NRA of course.
ReplyDeleteFor all their flaws, the Dems have elected two superb administrators in a row (don't remember Carter well), and Clinton was a good orator too. Neither was born wealthy, whereas the three R's I mentioned were. It's an actual meritocracy! One must give the D's some credit for this.
I doubt even Reagan could gulf the many and varied requirements to be an R nominee in this era. Not entirely clear to me if he'd be willing to fellate LaPierre or not. Food for thought.
David Frum said not too long ago: "Outside the system, President Obama—whatever his policy errors—is a figure of imposing intellect and dignity. Within the system, he’s a pitiful nothing, unable to speak without a teleprompter, an affirmative-action phony doomed to inevitable defeat." Amen, brother.
